"At approximately 16:10 on Monday 15 January 2007 on a David McClean Ltd construction site at Colquitt Street, Liverpool city centre, a JASO J138PA Luffing jib crane on hire from Falcon Crane Hire Ltd collapsed. As a result of the incident one person was tragically killed and the driver of the crane was seriously injured." The above is a quote from the HSE website available at http://www.hse.gov.uk/construction/live.htm#liverpool As a result of the Liverpool crane collapse and due to the fact that it is the second collapse, of a Falcon crane, in the space of 4 months, the HSE has ordered that all tower cranes owned by Falcon Cranes are to be taken down pending a full inspection by a competent inspector to make sure they are safe. http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2007/e07003.htm *Update 28 April 2007* - Of 120 cranes, owned by Falcon Cranes, 12 were found to be in poor shape and needing work to rectify them before they are able to be used again. Do we need any more proof that more needs to be done to ensure that ALL crane companies put the safety of their cranes above their potential to make money? The thought that, had these accidents not happened, these 12 cranes would still be in operation is quite startling.
