My Grandma was born in Fulham in London on 8th October 1914, to Albert Ernest Charles Watkins and Elizabeth Harriet Robina Pridham. I don't know very much about Grandma's life only recently what I learned at her funeral.
Although they moved to Twickenham, she always had a love for London and the Thames and even in her old age, when she was living in Oxford, she would often come to london and walk along the embankement.
While she was at school she broke the record for the long jump for Inner London Schools, which had been held for 30 years.
While living in Twickenham she met her future husband, John Craven Taylor (b. 8th October 1896). They had 4 daughters, Hilary, Alison, Mavis and Gillian and were living at Ryecroft Avenue. At some point Grandma was a sunday School teacher. In later life they moved to Oxford and when their daughter Mavis died they took on her three children and brought them up.
My memories of Grandma were nice ones. I always loved to visit and all the family would meet at her home. Sadly, after around Easter 1978, my father didn't take us any more. The relationship with him was somewhat strained and with my mother being ill, as well as her and my father splitting up, we didn't get to see much of mum's family after that. Grandma never forgot us and always wrote to my father to make sure that all was well with us children. I do remember Grandma coming to see us, in Shepherds Bush, back in the early 70s and taking us all to the Natural history Museum and us visiting Selfridges with her. I wish I had got to know her and her life better.
