Below is a news story from the death of Luke Lynch (brother of my ggg grandfather and uncle of Bishop Patrick Neeson Lynch). I have typed up the story on the right.

DEATH OF A DESCENDANT OF OWEN ROE O'NEILL

There died, a few days since, near Rosslea, Co. Fermanagh, in thr ninety-sixth year of his age, a man named Luke Lynch, who might with justice, be cited as an illustration of the saying, - "That it is amongst the Irish peasantry the real nobility of the country may be found." Although this man occupied a comparitively humble position in society, he could dwell with pride on the fact, that among the highest and best of historical celebrities of our country he could find his ancestors; and although he was born and lived his lifetime in a retired district, he could trace a direct line of descent from the Red Handed Neill, from Owen Roe, from the O'Reilly's of Cavan and from the McMahons, of Monaghan and Dartry. The deceased had a brother who, about forty years ago, emigrated to South Carolina, and settled at Cheraw, where he became an extensive planter. One of his sons was a major general in the Confederate army, who was prevented by sickness from taking active service. - Another son James, was a colonel, and commanded on James's Island, off Charleston, during some of Gilmore's most determined attacks; he died in the service. Another son is the Right Rev. P. N. Lynch, Bishop of South Carolina, who recently visited Europe on a diplomatic mission for the Government of Jeff Davis, and while here he visited his uncle at Rosslea. At that time his father was in good health, and on a visit with another son, Dr. John Lynch of Columbia, S.C. The deceased man of very considerable talent, and intimately acquainted with every phase of Irish politics. He could freely converse on every political change that came over the country since he saw the volunteers of 1792 under drill. He retained his mental faculties to the last, and aided by every consolation of religion has departed, it is to be hoped, to a better world. - Correspondent of Ulster observer.

Below is a news story from Bishop Lynch's visit to Roslea

Right Rev. Dr. Lynch of Charleston, South Carolina, accompanied by his nephew, visited his uncle Mr. Luke Lynch, on May 16th, at his (the Bishop's) native place, near Rosslea, and appeared quite delighted to find himself again among relations from whom he parted some forty -seven years ago, when a mere child. He was met by his cousin, Mr. James Kiernan, and Rev. Mr. Murphy, C.C., at whose residence in Rosslea he stopped for a short time in the evening, and then started for the house of the Very Rev. James Donnelly, D.D., P.P., with whom he got acquainted some time ago in Charleston but unfortunately the Rev. Dr. was not home. Mr. Murphy, however, did the honours in his absence, after which Dr. Lynch left for Clones. He is on his wat to Rome and will visit Dublin, Liverpool, London and Paris on his journey.

His family have rather distinguished themselves in the American struggle for their services to the Confederacy. His advocacy of the cause from the first seccasion of South Carolina and his abilities as statesman have made him one of the most trusted advisors of Jeff. Davis. His brother, Colonel Lynch, commanded in James' Island off Charleston, and was killed not long since. Another brother holds the rank of Lieutenant-General. The nephew who goes with him to Rome, and is stopping for a few days with Rev. Mr. Murphy and Mr. Kiernan, left the college of Corobroe, France, to join the army; where a young brother of eighteen ranks as officer in the cavalry regiment under Lee. He procured a cabin passage in a blockade runner in London, sailed by Madeira to Bermuda, where he ment his uncle who had just run out from Wilmington, and who induced him to return to Europe.
