McAree - Main Page

This page is dedicated to the family of Gerry McAree b. 1939 and associated families. These families came from both sides of the border, in Roslea and various townlands in Co. Monaghan. There are links with the 'Cooper' Rooneys, Boyle, Lynch, McClave, Beggan, McAloon, Treanor, Connolly and many more. I will do my best to document as much as I can for all these families, using records, books and other sources.

Gerald McAree was born on 25 January 1939 to Charles McAree and Bridget Rooney. According to family knowledge, Charles McAree was born in Annashanco on 11 May 1899 to James McAree and Margaret (nee Treanor). In the 1911 census, however, it says he was born in Monaghan (see below)

The family is living in house number 7 in Mullandavagh townland, Monaghan

I looked for the name Treanor in the 1911 Ireland Census in the townland of Allygesh, given by the family. I did not find Margaret's parents, Charles and Alice Treanor but did find a possible family members of Margaret living in Allagesh with their families.

Bridget Rooney was born on 10 May 1907 in Dernasell to Joseph Thomas Rooney of Derrygannon and Elizabeth 'Mondays' McAloon of Dernasell. I have found Bridget and her family in the 1911 Ireland census living in house number 6 in Dernasell, Monaghan. However, Elizabeth is entered as Izabella. They are living with Elizabeth's parents (Bridget's grandparents), Peter McAloon and Bridget (nee Cassidy).
