As you can see, there are no Quigley names listed under the townland of Drumacritten so I am interested in any information as to where the Quigley family were living. This may be a clue to a link between the Quigley family and one already living in Drumacritten as one wonders how they came to be there. The only Quigley names I could find in the Parish of Clones were Mick and Edward Quigley of Derrintonny in Monaghan, Thomas Quigly in Clonkeen Lucas and Owen Quigly in Rough Hill, both in Monaghan.

I then looked to see if I could find any other names that could have been interpreted as Quigley and found the following

These are all in the Fermanagh portion of the Parish of Clones and it may be that one of these Quigley/Quigly/Kegleys is the ancestor of the Quigleys of Drumacritten.

Griffiths Valuation 1848-1864

Below are the names of the people listed in Drumacritten in the Griffiths Valuation. The only Quigley listed was Jane. It is reasonable to assume that this was the same Jane Quigley who was married to Michael Quigley and the mother of John Quigley (m. to Ellen Swift). Jane's husband Michael had probably died by the time the Griffiths Valuation was taken.

Here is a list of all the Quigley names in the Parish of Clones. The last 3 townlands are in the County Monaghan portion of Clones Parish. You will notice that there is a Jane Quigley listed in the townland of Annashanco. This may be the same Jane as the one listed in Drumacritten. Annashanco and Drumacritten are neighbouring townlands.

John Quigley's wife Ellen (Swift) had died by the time the 1901 Census took place. Michael is listed as being 22 years old so it is a bit out in terms of the ages but this was the norm with the censuses and some people could be listed as much as 5+ years older or younger than they were.

Below you will see various files associated with the name Quigley, although not necessarily one of the Drumacritten Quigley family. To view each one click on the link. You will have to hit the back button to get back to this page.

Obit of Patrick Quigley - Patrick Quigley b. 4th Jan 1904was the son of Patrick Quigley and Katherine (nee ?) His mother died in childbirth and his father remarried a Mary McCabe of Derrylea (sister of Michael Joseph McCabe). Patrick emigrated to Buffalo, New York in about 1928 and remained there. In 1983 Patrick visited Ireland and died suddenly on 16th July 1983..

Below You will find any other information I find relating to Quigley and those who married into the Quigley family.

Ellen Swift of Enshina (otherwise known as Annaghmartin) had a sister Rose, who married Thomas McCaffrey of Killattin (son of Philip and Mary McCaffrey). This marriage gives us Philip Swift as father of Rose but also gives us Helen as the mother.
