Introduction
Whether you're visiting Roslea, Co. Fermanagh, for ancestry research or simply taking a holiday break, Annagulgan House is a MUST. Forget the big hotels and guest houses, if you want comfort, as well as feeling like part of the family, you'll stay at Annagulgan. You will not find accommodation as affordable either. I have stayed there on a number of ocassions and will continue to do so for as long as it continues to be a B&B. I now regard the proprietor, Maureen Callaghan, and her family as personal friends. They are some of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet and so eager to help in any way they can. They have also lived in Roslea all their lives and so, for the ancestral tourist, who better to ask than the ones who will be most likely to know..... the locals. And in the event that they can't answer your questions, they will most likely be able to point you in the direction of a man (or woman) that can!
Rooms
There are 2 rooms available within the family home (one double and one triple). Yes! you really are treated as part of an extended family and what could be better than spending your holidays on a working farm. You really get an idea of what farming life is like, while also having the luxury of en-suite bathrooms (toilet, sink and shower) and beds made for a perfect sleep...
Meals
When you hear the words B&B, it conjures up thoughts of "if you want breakfast you must be ready to eat between 8:30-9:30am". This must be one of the only B&B's that is not militant enough to drag you out of bed before you are ready, get the food down you and send you on your way. Here, you get up at your own leisure, and down to eat, where your meal will shortly follow. And what a meal. A full breakfast, plus cereal (if you've got any room left) and fresh, home baked bread, soda bread and scones to die for. Maureen certainly knows how to get your taste buds going. Be prepared to diet when you get home. There is nothing to compare.
Garden
What can I say about the garden that you cannot already see in the photos? It's more the size of a small park than a garden and there is grass and fields as far as the eye can see. It's beautiful and a credit to Maureen that it is so well kept and planted. It's quite difficult to capture the whole scale of the garden, it is so big but I hope my photos have done it justice. You have to actually be there to complete the experience. When you hear the term, "40 shades of green", it's true! No other place I have been, has such variety of greenery as Ireland and Roslea is no exception. What do you think all the rain is for?
